Chapter 13

The weekend seemed to creep by and all Ko-Ko could think about was Rayshawn. She’d left him several text and voice messages on his phone, but as usual got no reply. Of course she knew he was ignoring her, but Ko-Ko wasn’t the type of woman to give up easily. Her plan was to keep stalking her prey until he finally surrendered. She was more than determined to make things the way they used to be.

When Rayshawn got back from lunch on Monday, Ko-Ko was waiting for him outside. He’d been avoiding her all day, so she decided to try another option. Once he walked toward the building, she plucked the butt of her cigarette, then jumped up to block his way. Ko-Ko looked him up and down then leaned over to sniff him.

“What the hell are you doing?” Rayshawn asked.

“Just seeing if I could still smell some bitch on you.”

“I’m serious Ko-Ko, you need some psychological help. Nobody walks around sniffing people and shit,” Rayshawn said, stepping back. He shook his head in disbelief that she was still making a fool of herself.

Ko-Ko put her hands on her hips. “All I need is you.” When Rayshawn tried to move toward the door, she blocked him again. “I really need for you to take some time out for me.”

“Look, you need to really get it in your head that we’re done. It was fun while it lasted, but shit is getting way out of hand, and I don’t need that right now. Plus, you and I both don’t want my mother to find out, so it’s best that we go back to the way things use to be.”

Ko-Ko was relentless. “If you just give me one day, I’m sure I can make it up to you for my behavior the other night. Please Rayshawn, I’m only asking for just one day. I think I deserve that.” She wasn’t use to being turned down by any man. Let alone, someone almost half her age.

Just then Felice walked up toward the door in her normal sexy stride. When she saw Ko-Ko and Rayshawn outside talking, she smiled. It definitely looked like a lovers quarrel. “Hello.”

Rayshawn returned the smile. “Hey, you.”

Ko-Ko didn’t.

“Hey Rayshawn, I need to go over some details regarding the trip. Can you meet with me right now?” Felice inquired.

“Yes, Ms. Contour,” Rayshawn answered. Once Felice walked inside, he turned to Ko-Ko. “I guess our conversation is just like our non-existent relationship…over.”

“I’m telling you this and you better take my warning seriously. You don’t want to start no shit with Felice. You’ll regret it for the rest of your life. Shit ain’t what it appears to be. Besides, this situation ain’t over until I say it’s over,” Ko-Ko said, before storming off.

He couldn’t figure out what Ko-Ko meant by saying things weren’t what they appeared, but didn’t entertain the thought for too long. Refusing for her to ruin the rest of his day, Rayshawn entered into the conference room and sat on two chairs away from his boss.
